Restaurants in Rome, Snaps’n’Snippets

Places to eat in Rome along with some of my favorite dishes. I love classic Roman food and new twists to the old.

Feasting is also visual and that goes for the restaurant space as well as the food. I love unique, well-decorated venues that are intelligently laid out and allow for conversation while you eat.

Here are some of my favorites; stay tuned as I add new earteries…

Hosteria del Mercato, Via Bocca del Leone, 46a – Spanish Steps area
Molo 10, – Ponte Milvio area

Right near the Spanish Steps yet tucked away on the quiet Via Bocca di Leone 46a, Hosteria del Mercato has been opened for a bit over a year, but guess what? They just opened up a charming food market attached to the restaurant featuring fabulous produce and other market goods: all high end and delicious.

Hosteria del Mercato offers great wine by the glass; the Alchimia Primitivo from the Puglia region’s Duca di Saragnano winery we tried was delicious!

If you like truffles then you’ll love this chef’s special at the Hosteria del Mercato: Senatore Cappelli spaghetti with black truffle and buffalo ricotta cheese.

Tables of all sizes, simply but elegantly decorated with lots of lovely plants and greenery.

Pasta sharing is my thing so I was able to try another amazing chef’s special: tagliatelle with porcini mushrooms, olive oil and parsley.

Molo 10, Via della Farnesina, 10 – Ponte Milvio

Ponte Milvio has been one of my favorite areas of Rome for decades, my “hood” in a sense! Wonderful shops, a great market, tasty eateries. It’s a bit off the tourist track adding to its appeal though easily accessible by public transportation and on foot. It’s also accessible from the cycling path that runs along the Tiber River.

Seafood is my favorite and Molo 10 is as tasty and creative as it gets. Molo 10 is open for lunch and dinner; I love it at lunch as it’s quieter and offers a great end to a morning of market shopping.

Everything is delicious here, but the appetizers are my favorite. The tonno porchettato in agrodolce is outstanding.

A must try: Deep fried shrimp and julienned zucchini.

Also delicious are the fried calamari…

Not to mention the baccalà…

Paccheri is my favorite pasta; perfect for scooping up this fresh tomato and scorpionfish sauce.

Chocolate dessert always has my attention! This mouthwatering flourless dark chocolate cake with freshly whipped cream and sprinkled with ground pistachio was amazing.

Chocolate chip cookies with a pastry cream sauce: it makes your dessert choice difficult! Get them all and share!
